Julia Mancarella was born in Denver, Colorado and started making art from a young age. She was born in a family of creative individuals, which acted as a catalyst for her own expression. Starting with paint, markers and two-dimensional media, Julia then gravitated towards three-dimensional media in her late teens.
She is a graduate of the Colorado State University, earning a BFA with a concentration in Metalsmithing and Jewelry. Her work interacts with concepts involving material value, the history of Jewelry and body adornment, and the transformability of metal and its metaphorical aspects when related to the human experience. Her materials of choice are 14k and 18k gold, silver, and various gemstones. Her work contributes to the conversation between the world of contemporary jewelry and the rich historical traditions of jewelry making and body adornment.
