Abbie & Adam

A New Ring for a Longtime Love

How did you and your significant other meet?

We went to the same high school but didn't really meet until after we graduated.

As a couple, what are your interests/hobbies?

We are homebodies that love to hang out with our 4 kids but also love to go on camping adventure road trips

When did you know your partner was “the one” and you wanted to get married?

I (Abbie) knew the first time I went on vacation with Adam and his family- about 6 months into dating.

What is one of your favorite things about your partner?

He is the most attentive listener, even if it's about something he isn't otherwise interested in.

What was your proposal like (was the ring a surprise or was it collaborative)?

His proposal to me was a complete surprise. He picked out the ring himself and it was exactly what I wanted back then. But that was 13 years ago and since then I've developed a nickel allergy and my style has changed quite a bit. The amazing artists at Balefire helped me select a new band that was hypoallergenic and a new setting for my stone that is a more accurate representation of who I am today

Tell us about your wedding (if it has happened yet).

We are originally from Michigan but had our wedding at The Stanley in Estes Park on Thanksgiving weekend and it was small and absolutely perfect.

Why did you decide to work with Balefire?

My friend, the incredibly talented, Jesse Mathes, suggested I go in when I told her how I hadn't been able to wear my ring for several years because of my nickel allergy.

What advice would you give to other couples shopping for wedding or engagement rings?

I think the idea of a custom ring is intimidating for many reasons. I do not consider myself to be artistically gifted so I was worried I would have no idea how to contribute to the process but the team at Balefire is so intuitive and supportive that you will not regret the piece of art that comes from the collaboration.
